About AMA
Asia Mapping Art Contest is a premier Asia-based global competition dedicated to advancing the innovation and implementation of immersive digital light art. Our vision is to bring light to more cities and illuminate more corners. Adopting a touring model, it is untethered from a single host city, using replicable modular carriers for joint screenings across multiple locations. Decoupled from traditional light festivals, we build a lightweight, sustainable IP. Through city licensing partnerships, award-winning works grace commercial spaces, cultural landmarks and public venues, letting every beam of creative light warm hearts and brighten cities.

What is the relationship between the AMA and the previous four editions of the Chongqing Mapping Contest?
The Chongqing Mapping Contest was the core segment of the Chongqing International Light Art Festival in the past four editions. We own the full copyright and execution rights of this segment. Other segments of the festival were mostly customized cooperative programs based on the annual needs of different organizers and venues. We have now upgraded the Mapping Contest to become the Asia Mapping Art Contest. It maintains the same overall structure and operation system and it is launched as a new independent IP!
In which city will the event be held in the future?
We will adopt a model of global tour plus annual main venue. The exhibition will tour across China and around the world from July to December, presented in the form of light installations and integrated with local events. A city (to be confirmed) will be selected as the annual main venue at the end of December, where the final contest, judging, award ceremony and guest gala will be held. It will be the most high-standard, influential and well-funded annual event. Similar to the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, host cities can be selected each year.
Will the creation format of this contest change?
The creation format remains the same as previous editions. Around 15 to 20 outstanding international teams will be selected through the preliminary round to enter the final. All awards will be decided by on-site judging during the final. There are no restrictions on creation styles, and participants enjoy high creative freedom. Entries only need to present creative Mapping works based on the exhibition site.
Will the operation model of this contest change?
The operation model will be greatly upgraded. The contest will no longer rely on a single local government, institution or enterprise, but will adopt a national and global tour model. For partner venues, the overall participation cost will be greatly reduced, effectively easing the financial pressure on organizers. Outstanding creations can be reused, allowing high-quality works to be shown in multiple places and reaching wider audiences beyond regional limits.
Is the contest only open to creators from Asia?
No. The contest is hosted by the Asia Mapping Association, hence the word “Asia” in its name. However, the contest is open to artists from all over the world. We also aim to use this platform to promote more outstanding Asian artists and works to the international stage, and support the exchange, integration and development of Mapping art globally.
Will the event accept works in other forms besides Mapping?
The competition mainly focuses on architectural projection Mapping. In the light art events held in various regions, in addition to the competition section, we will set up an invited artwork section according to the characteristics of each venue. The forms of works can include Mapping, immersive exhibitions, water screen projections, LED installations, light installations, interactive art, graffiti art, fashion shows, painting exhibitions and other art forms.
